# Do I need a referral to participate in the LifestyleRx Better Health Program?

Yes. The LifestyleRx Better Health Program is a referral-based program, which means we require the consent of your Primary Care Provider (family physician or nurse practitioner) for you to participate.

If you have not received a referral before starting the onboarding process, that’s completely fine. Once you begin onboarding, our team will contact your Primary Care Provider and submit a referral request on your behalf.

If you do not currently have a Primary Care Provider, the process depends on your province:

* Ontario: Patients without a Primary Care Provider may be asked to visit a walk-in clinic first so a physician can review the program and provide a referral before onboarding can continue.
* British Columbia and Alberta: Patients without a Primary Care Provider may proceed with onboarding on a self-referred basis.

In some cases, patients who do have a Primary Care Provider may be asked to visit their provider before completing onboarding to review the program and confirm it is appropriate for them. This typically occurs at the request of the Primary Care Provider.
